A weekend at the Great Rivers Chalet

A while back I had the chance to spend a weekend at the Great Rivers Chalet with my partner and our dog, Moka. This article is for anyone who is on the fence about booking a weekend getaway at this or any other chalet. I’m here to tell you it is totally worth it!

The Great Rivers Chalet

The Great Rivers Chalet is a gorgeous chalet that is perfect for couples or small families. Its a small one bedroom, one bathroom that is perfectly set up so it doesn’t feel small at all. During the day, the whole place is filled with natural light thanks to the extra large bay windows that also offer a nice view of the river through the trees. You can sit back and relax in one of the many hammocks while reading a book and soaking up the sun.

In the evening you’ll be able to prepare a wonderful dinner in the fully equipped kitchen. Afterwards you can hang out around the campfire or, if you’re visiting in the winter, by the fireplace. The absolute calm and out of the way location create a perfect environment for stargazing and eventually falling asleep to the sounds of the rushing river.

What to do

If you’re looking to spend some time at the Great Rivers Chalet, its important to keep in mind that its the kind of place you go to spend time outside. There is no WIFI and no television, which can be an important thing to consider if travelling with kids. Personally, I think its wonderful to get away from technology every once and a while. If that’s what you’re looking to do as well this place is really perfect.

There are a bunch of hiking trails all around the chalet. We did the one called “Le Raft”. The trailhead is just across the street from the chalet and it goes along the side of the river. The trail is 1.8km each way, so just under 4km round trip. Our dog loved it, she had lots of room to run and lots of hills to climb. I definitely recommend keeping your dog on a leash since the river is accessible from the trail and the current is really strong. The trail itself definitely has more of a “natural” feel to it, some sections have you climbing up or down rocks and roots while others are flat and easy to walk. Even so, most people with a good pair of walking shoes can do it.

Should you book a weekend?

YES! I definitely recommend it! If you’ve got the chance to spend a weekend at the Great Rivers Chalet or at any other chalet take it. You’ll leave feeling relaxed and ready to face whatever you have coming up in the future! If you don’t take it from me, take it from Moka. Just look at the smile she had on her silly face after her weekend at the chalet!
